Terms of use
Last updated 30 September 2026
These terms apply when you use ScaLearn at scalearn.ai, whether you have an account or use a tutor through a share link. By using ScaLearn you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we use personal data.
1. Who we are
ScaLearn AI is run by ScaLearn AI Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales with company number 17158584 (“ScaLearn”, “we” or “us”). You can contact us at [email protected].
2. The service
ScaLearn helps students learn from their course materials and helps educators teach and assess. Depending on your role, you can chat with an AI tutor that answers from a module’s materials, talk to a video avatar tutor, upload and manage course materials, share a tutor through a link, build marking rubrics and review marks and feedback that AI suggests.
We are developing ScaLearn actively. Features will change, and we may add, change or withdraw them.
3. Accounts and roles
You need an account to use most of ScaLearn. You can sign up with an email address and password, and where it is offered you can sign in with Google or LinkedIn instead.
- Students. Accounts created through sign-up are student accounts.
- Educators. We give educator access to teaching staff. Educators can upload materials to their modules, set up a tutor, share it by link, review their students’ tutor sessions and use the marking tools.
- Admins. Admin accounts are held by ScaLearn staff to run the service.
Give accurate details when you sign up, keep your password to yourself, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
Share links. An educator can share a tutor with people who do not have an account, through a link and a passcode. The educator chooses who receives the link, sets when it expires and can revoke it at any time. These terms apply to visitors who use a share link too.
4. Acceptable use
Use ScaLearn lawfully, and for learning and teaching. Do not:
- upload material you do not have the right to share, or that is unlawful, harmful or infringes anyone’s rights;
- upload other people’s personal data unless you are entitled to, for example as their educator under your institution’s rules;
- try to get into accounts, modules or data that are not yours, or get round passcodes, rate limits, bot checks or other protections;
- probe, scan, overload or disrupt ScaLearn, or copy or reverse engineer it except where the law allows;
- use automated tools to extract content or answers from ScaLearn;
- use ScaLearn in a way that breaks your institution’s rules on assessed work.
If these terms are broken, we may remove content, revoke a share link, or suspend or close the account involved.
5. Course materials and other content
You keep ownership of what you upload or write on ScaLearn, including course materials, questions, messages, coursework, rubrics and feedback.
Materials educators upload
When you upload course materials, you confirm that you own them or have permission to use them in this way. You give ScaLearn a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, convert, transcribe, index and display them, and to process them with the AI and hosting providers named in our privacy policy, so that we can:
- answer questions and generate practice material from them for people using that module’s tutor, including visitors to share links you create;
- show the passages an answer cites and let people signed in to ScaLearn open the files on that module;
- run and support the service for you.
The licence lasts while the material is on ScaLearn. Several educators can work on the same module, so materials stay on their module if your account is closed. To have them removed, delete them yourself, ask another educator on the module, or ask us.
We do not use your materials to train AI models.
What students and visitors write
You give us the licence we need to store and process your questions, messages and coursework in order to provide ScaLearn, including showing them to your educators as our privacy policy describes.
Our platform
ScaLearn’s software, design and branding belong to us. You may use the answers, practice material and feedback ScaLearn gives you for your own learning and teaching.
6. AI output
The tutors, the avatars and the rubric assistant are AI systems, not people. The tutors answer from a module’s materials, and chat answers show their sources, but AI can misread, leave things out or be wrong. Check important information against the source. ScaLearn does not give professional, legal, financial or medical advice.
Marks are suggested by an AI system and confirmed by your educator. No mark is final without their review.
You are responsible for how you use what ScaLearn produces, including following your institution’s rules on using AI.
7. Availability
We work to keep ScaLearn running, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may pause it for maintenance or security. Parts of ScaLearn rely on other providers, such as the video avatar services and Google’s AI models, and may not work when those providers are unavailable or at capacity.
8. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and for fraud.
If you use ScaLearn as a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect.
Subject to that, we are responsible only for loss that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, or by relying on AI output that you did not check.
If you use ScaLearn for a business, university or other organisation, we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business or opportunity, or for any indirect or consequential loss.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using ScaLearn at any time. To close your account, email us at [email protected] and we will delete it as our privacy policy describes. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or close accounts if we stop providing ScaLearn. Where we can, we will tell you first.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when ScaLearn changes. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If we make a significant change, we will tell you in ScaLearn before it takes effect.
